Merck Sigma Aldrich are a world leading supplier of products for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical research, development and production. They have set ambitious sustainability goals and commissioned T-SQUARED to assist by implementing a new heat pump system to recover waste heat from the chilled water system and minimize natural gas use. This was a project with a tight timescale and budget, but we were happy to accept the challenge!
T-SQUARED worked closely with the team at the site in Irvine, recommending solutions that could be implemented quickly and satisfy the project specifications. We suggested a water to water heat pump with the retention of the existing gas boilers. This would allow the site maximises heat pump usage while providing resilience through the existing gas boilers and staying within budget. We worked around the facility’s operations to ensure there was minimal disruption.
This was a fast-paced project which was completed in just 1 month to a tight budget. T-SQUARED’s recommended solution provides an effective heat pump system for Merck Sigma Aldrich, balancing sustainability, resilience, and budget considerations. In conjunction with other works we completed at their Irvine site, we have been able to help them improve efficiency and run operations much more sustainably.
